Stepping into Miracles: Crossing Your Jordan

On the Verge of a Miracle

Today, in this edition of the Sermon on The Chat, I want to discuss being on the verge of your miracle. In our journey of faith, there are moments when we find ourselves standing at the edge of the metaphorical Jordan River. The Jordan River represents the impassable obstacles, the challenges, and the overwhelming problems we face. Like Joshua and the two million Israelites, we may encounter situations that seem impossible to overcome. The river is in flood stage, raging with violent currents, and we are tempted to turn back. However, we must remember the powerful truth in these moments: We are on the verge of a miracle.

The Impassable Obstacle:

When the Israelites stood before the Jordan River, it presented a seemingly insurmountable barrier. It could have been over 150 feet wide, with violent currents rushing from Mount Hermon. The problem was too big, and human reasoning would suggest retreat. Similarly, we may face health challenges, financial struggles, or broken relationships that appear larger than life. We may feel overwhelmed and uncertain about how these situations could work out. In those moments, it is essential to recognize that these trials are a test of our faith.

Here’s what the Bible says about this event: “As soon as the priests who carry the ark of the LORD—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.” – Joshua 3:13 (NIV)

Keep Walking:

Despite the overwhelming circumstances, Joshua instructed the people to keep walking. They were called to step out in faith, trust in God’s promises, and remain obedient. It required courage and determination to continue moving forward when all logic suggested retreat. Likewise, we are called to persevere in the face of adversity, to keep praying, and to maintain our expectations of God’s intervention.

The Miracle at the Verge:

As the priests carried the ark of the Lord and set foot in the Jordan River, a miraculous event unfolded. The waters flowing downstream were cut off, and they stood up in a heap, allowing the Israelites to pass through on dry ground. God fulfilled His promise and demonstrated His power. This miraculous intervention turned the impossible into a reality.

Please meditate about the following scripture reference: “Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Command the priests carrying the ark of the covenant law to come up out of the Jordan.’ So, Joshua commanded the priests, ‘Come up out of the Jordan.’ And the priests came up out of the river carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord. No sooner had they set their feet on the dry ground than the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and ran at flood stage as before.” – Joshua 4:16-18 (NIV)

Applying the Lesson:

The story of crossing the Jordan River is not merely a historical account; it holds profound relevance for us today. We all face our own Jordan Rivers—problems that seem insurmountable and challenges that test our faith. However, just as God proved faithful to the Israelites, He is faithful to us. We must remember that these obstacles set us up for our promised land, our place of breakthrough and fulfillment.

Getting Your Feet Wet:

To step into our miracles, we must be willing to get our feet wet. It requires boldness, unwavering faith, and perseverance. Despite the fear and uncertainty, we must continue walking, praying, and expecting God to move. When we choose to take these steps of obedience, we position ourselves to witness miraculous interventions. God longs to open doors that we never dreamed possible and turn around situations that seemed irreversible.

The Jordan River as Preparation:

The journey across the Jordan River was not the ultimate destination for the Israelites; it was a necessary step towards their promised land. Similarly, our trials and challenges are not meant to break us but to prepare us for God’s greater purposes. Through these experiences, we are refined, strengthened, and transformed. We learn to rely on God’s faithfulness and power, knowing He can turn any situation around for His glory.

In Conclusion:

As we stand on the verge of our miracles, let us hold fast to our faith. Though the obstacles may seem overwhelming, we have a God who is greater than any challenge we face. Just as the Israelites stepped into the Jordan River and witnessed a miraculous parting, we, too, can step out in faith with the confidence that God is with us. We must keep walking, praying, and expecting, for we are on the brink of seeing God open doors and turn our problems into opportunities. Folks, let us embrace the journey, trusting in His faithfulness and stepping into the miracles He has prepared for us.

Let us Pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the promise that You will part our Jordan Rivers when we step into the water. When things look impossible, we know You want us to be bold and obey, pray, and expect. We will see miracles along the way. Strengthen our faith and give us the courage to walk towards our promised land. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Have a great week!
